2Gb and WiFi Pods

Getting VM fitted tomorrow (first time to this property as it's a new build area and recently finally XGS-PON enabled, but no actual other form of VM round here), and I've gone for the symmetric 2Gb Up/Down service.

Currently my existing home setup is multiple quad-core Huawei routers around the house as a Mesh system.

So not only is No Modem Mode on the 5x something I'm already aware of, it wouldn't be an ideal solution anyway as all of my many Huawei routers as a Mesh System, couldn't support the 2Gb speeds anyway.

So how hard is it getting WiFi pods - what's the best way to achieve this?

I can't see the app offering me these, as on a 2,000Mbp service, I don't really see any home notspots not reaching 30Mb on WiFi.

But that barometer is a truly shocking one anyway, as who in their right mind feels a 30Mb WiFi speed from a symmetric 2,000Mb package is the appropriate litmus test value anyhow!?!?

So what's the best way to secure them?

(I'm especially worried about my ring doorbell as due to the brickwork in the porch it sits on, it already struggles, just fifteen to twenty feet away from TWO Huawei mesh routers).

Any advice or tricks of the trade to either get WiFi pods issues direct by CS, or have the app detect a less than 30Mb speed rating at various points to them automatically offer them etc?

Just use the setup you have now and double NAT in the hope VM do modem mode

2Gb with the right hardware by wire yes not by wifi VM don't give good hardware for that its more Black and White by wire then wifi

VM won't guarantee more than 30Mbps with their Pods, although if you get their newer black ones which are WiFi 6 they are reported to be very good.

However if you already have a good mesh system you are best to stick with that. Can you connect one or more of your existing APs by ethernet? That will improve the coverage considerably.

My name is NOT Alessandro. That's just a tag Virginmedia sticks on some contributors. Please ignore it.

Hi qedded,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us via the Community. It's lovely having you on board with us in the Forums.

We're excited to hear that you're getting VM broadband installed - hopefully the installation went well and you're already enjoying the new 2GB speeds.

In terms of the WiFi Pods, these are part of our WiFi Max service. We'd only offer these if you are having issues with the WiFi connection and after diagnostics have been run. You can have a maximum of 3 however these can only be sent one at a time and 7 days apart.

I've not been able to locate your account based on your forum credentials to check how the install went and to see how things are looking so please let us know how it all went.

Many thanks,
