Early Termination charge out of contract

I have received a final bill today with an Early Termination Charge of £59.68. As my contract expired on 13 January I contacted web chat on 20 January to inform them that I wanted to leave. I was told that I needed to give 30 days notice which I disagree with. On 21 February my service was still not disconnected and I contacted web chat again. Assistant looked into my account and arranged for disconnection on 23 February.

I think it is outrageous that they wanted 30 days notice when I was out of contract then they still messed up the disconnection. They now have the bare faced cheek to bill me for early termination.

Is this normal behaviour for Virgin?

Who can I contact to sort this mess out?

You are NOT out of contract with VM. If your 12/18/24 month contract ended you are it on a 30 day rolling contract. You still have to give 30 days notice of termination. It’s all in your original contract, but most people do not read it.

Thanks for your post on our Community Forums, and a very warm welcome to you @MisterGinge.

Sorry to hear of the billing dispute, we would have to advise that if you were out of a contract you wouldn't be issued with early disconnection fees, but would expect to serve the 30 day notice period as per the terms and conditions agreed with you at the point of sale.

It would also be worth noting that we bill our customers in advance for their services and on each bill, offer a section to confirm what discounts are issued and when they're due to expire.

The discounts would in the vast majority of cases fun in accordance with the contract expiry date to help keep customers informed as to when the contract is set to expire.

Thanks,

Why have I been charged for the early termination fee when I am not in a contract with Virgin?

Yes, it is absolutely normal for VM to screw you for money!!

As I have said elsewhere, they charged me more than £200 for ealy disconnection, late payments when they stopped taking money from the DD which was still active, and overdue charges. They would not in any way concede that they cocked up by not taking the money from the bank, and as usual their "help" was useless.

I have given Virgin the 30 days notice (even though I still believe that to be unfair and underhand).

They are still charging me for early termination???

Thanks for coming back to me @MisterGinge.

Happy to look into this for you to gain some clarity over the early disconnection fees you're referring to, but if the agreed contract expired, then you wouldn't be in a contract with a locked in period and therefore wouldn't be subjected to early disconnection fees.

Check out the envelope in the top right hand corner for a private message from me and hopefully we can have this resolved for you

Thanks,
