Contract Change Overlap overcharge

Hi feeling a little peeved.

I've been with Virgin for many years and have changed contracts and always found the amended charges on a new contract understandable.

But not this time...

My last bill on my old contract was £97.50 dated 27th May-26th June, taken form my bank this week.

However I called up changed contract on the 21st June, Contract clearly states start of  21st June, monthly contract to be |£96.50 but will be £108.72 first month.

How does that work, I'm paying twice for June 21st-26th June with an extra £12.22 added on??

Anyone else had this?
