Landline disconnected and lost number after changing deal

We recently came to the end our contract which was originally on M250 with landline Talk Anytime.

We were told without the Talk Anytime we could have a much better price so we agreed.

We assumed our calls would just be chargeable now with the new deal...We didn't realise the line would be disconnected completely.

After calling Virgin Media back last week we were told we could have our landline back for a small amount extra per month and that our old number should be able to be retained.

The number has not returned and the line is still dead. Now Virgin Media say no such new deal was completed and our old number cannot be re-used.

We have had the same number for over 20 years when it was previously a BT number.

Is there anyway to resolve this?
