Hi,
I recently joined Virgin Media as you are the only providers offering fibre in my area.
Initially, I received a Hub 3 which had bad connection issues. The internet would disconnect frequently for a few seconds and then come back. After phoning customer service and checking the line into the apt, they confirmed the line was fine. They decided to send me a new router which was actually an older model (Hub 2).
The connection was fine for a few weeks. Randomly, for a few days at a time, the ping goes awful. With 50-70 ms ping for EU servers where I am normally getting 20-30 ms. I tried resetting the router multiple times, doesn't make a difference. I've read somewhere that sometimes Virgin can't handle the amount of traffic on their network and it just goes bad this time of year. I guess I just have to accept that your infrastructure is sub par. I've been hours on the phone with customer service and on forums trying to figure out what's wrong but nothing works.
If anyone has found a fix for these issues please let me know. I'm willing to purchase a third-party router if virgin's routers are simply not up to scratch. Although I would assume with direct line connection a different router isn't going to make a difference
