New scam/ phishing email?

alienor
Up to speed

Not seen this one before. Received an email today, supposedly from Virgin, telling me there has been a complaint because thousands of spam emails have come from my email address and they need me to click on a link so they can scan for viruses and prevent the loss of my email account. Hilarious!

I have deleted it and reported it.

You and a million others. Hopefully they will all ignore it too.

My name is NOT Alessandro. That's just a tag Virginmedia sticks on some contributors. Please ignore it.

Hi Alienor 👋 Welcome back to the community! Thank you for posting.

Sorry to hear these concerns about an email you received. It does sound like it may be a scam/phishing email. If at any stage you have concerns that your email address has been hacked please see here 👉 https://www.virginmedia.com/help/security/why-is-my-virgin-media-email-hacked

Would you be able to provide the address that it came from?

If you'd like us to take a look at the account from our side we can check if it has been locked, or offer support to do this if you have concerns the account has been compromised. Let us know if you have anything else you need our support with.

Thank you! Wishing you all the best. 🌞

I need some help please.  I had an email today

and I opened the attachment and signed in - never done this before I'm usually really on top of scams.  As soon as I had done it I realised and immediately changed by VM password - within half an hour.  I checked the autoforward on my account and it's empty - I'm worried because it was about paying invoices - should I connect with my bank or do anything else.  I can forward the email if that's any use

What sort of personal info did you provide to the scammers? The type and quantity of info you provided them with will determine the scale of the measures you need to take.
