Locked out of emails due to security update

Having spent 3 days locked out of my emails ( I have finally had it reset by Virgin media tech team. I now have to sign in with a different email address (  and new password.

I have been told by the tech team that they have put new security measures into place as many people were complaining that their  email accounts had been hacked. I hadn't been given any warning that my account was going to be locked and my account hadn't been hacked.

Has this happened to anyone else??

We're very sorry for any inconvenience that may have been caused by the account being locked.

We'd only do this if there was any potentially suspicious activity detected such as multiple log in attempts for example. This is done as a security measure.
