Email Access after Account Closure

Son_of_Anarchy

Hi All,

My VM broadband contract is due to expire shortly, after which I’m due to be moving house  in the following months to a non-VM area.  I had a call from VM today and explained this, and asked if I could keep my current mail address.  I was told I could and there would be no charge for this.  I tried to clarify this by specifically asking that, after my contract had finished, I would still be able to send and receive emails from my current address.  I was told yes.  My question is, is this correct?  Also, will I have to change any settings in Outlook to do this from another broadband provider?

oh, and I don’t suppose VM offer a rolling month by month contract until I’ve moved?

Many thanks for any guidance 🙂

Unfortunately that's not correct. The email account is supposed to be closed 90 days after your broadband. In practice it can be longer than that, but don't rely on that.

My name is NOT Alessandro. That's just a tag Virginmedia sticks on some contributors. Please ignore it.

@Son_of_Anarchy Actually VM contracts don't finish at the end of a minimum term period they simply roll on as a month by month contract, however the monthly charge is likely to go up with the end of discounts that applied during the minimum term.  You contract document and monthly bill should state what the charge will be going forward.

As for the email access you should get 90 days access once you cease to be a VM broadband customer.

Hi @jpeg1 and @Graham_A - thank you very much for the replies.  I thought it sounded too good to be true but 90 days is better than an immediate switch off of my mail account.  I’ll try and call VM to see how much it’ll cost to go on a monthly contract, I’m on a ridiculously cheap deal at the moment.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.

@Son_of_Anarchy As I said you will automatically be moved onto a rolling 30 day contract when your current minimum term ends.

Hi Sons_of_Anarchy 👋 Welcome back to the community forum! Thanks for posting.

Sorry to hear you are moving to a non-serviced area, and that you were incorrectly informed about the ability to retain your email if you no longer have services with us. Email is a free / complimentary service as part of our broadband packages, but it does require an active service.

The community members have correctly advised that any Email account no longer linked with an active services account should close within 90 days. You can see more information about this here 👉 https://www.virginmedia.com/help/broadband/manage-email-account in the section titled 'How to close or delete an email account'. There are occasions where this takes a little longer, but the account will eventually become 'orphaned' (no-longer linked with an active parent account' and so can be closed & deleted at any time without notice.

Sadly we don't offer support with package changes via community as these are best done in real time, but we hope we are able to help find a deal that best suits you, if you are looking to retain services. You can do this via any of our direct contact methods; Social Media; (Facebook, Instagram & Twitter)
💻Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/virginmedia
🐤Twitter: https://twitter.com/virginmedia
📞Call: 150 (free of charge) from a Virgin Media landline or 0345 454 1111 from any other phone
📲WhatsApp:  07803089684

Hope we can help get this sorted for you. Let us know if there's anything else you need our help with! Wishing you all the best. 🌞
