Monthly charges

My current package is M250 + Maxit TV + Sports + Any time telephone. I am 'out of contract'. My monthly bill keeps going up, it was about £75 a few months back and this month is now at £95. What are others paying for this package? Should I move to sky?

Once your minimum term ends, you lose your initial discounts and you move to 'standard' pricing for your package.

There is little/no point trying to compare your VM package price with other VM customers. This is because VM aims to negotiate an individual price with each and every customer by forcing customers to renew via a sales agent who will try to upsell you the biggest/most expensive package that they can get away with. We see regular topics on here where a customer has found a friend/family member is on exactly the same package but paying a wildly different subscription for exactly the same services.

Perhaps more relevant is the price Sky (and all of the other competitor companies in your area) is offering for a comparable package of services.

If you are going to negotiate with VM to renew, that competitor pricing is the info you need at your fingertips. Once you have competitor pricing and VM's renewal pricing, only you can decide whether to move or not.

Do your homework first and price up similar deals with other providers. Also determine what you actually need from VM.  Do you need the current level of speed?  Also look at if  you need a new sim. VM now have the Volt packages which  double your data and broadband speed, so it might be worthwhile taking out a lower broadband speed on a Volt bundle which would double your broadband speed .

When you decide to renegotiate/cancel the best method and time to contact them is to call  150 from a Virgin landline or mobile, or 0345 454 1111, but best to call at 8am when lines first open to avoid call queues.

Choose option 4 retentions (thinking of leaving us) They are generally based in the UK, and have a greater degree of knowledge and flexibility, along with a larger range of discounts than the front line agents. Hopefully you can negotiate a deal with them that's suitable to your pocket and needs in exchange for a new contract.

You can also speak to the team on WhatsApp on 0780 3089 684 but phone calls take priority.

You can also sign into My Virgin Media and click on Upgrade Offers to see if anything is available.  Depending up staff availabilty there may also be a pop up messenger on that page so you can chat and discuss your options.

I know I have to give Virgin notice of me leaving - how do I optimise that  -. lets say for example I am going to Sky and I want Sky in on the day that Virgin is out do I call Virgin first and get a date or can I call Sky hear the deal offer and give them a date and then call Virgin?

The new OTS process allows you to contact Sky and agree a deal with them.  You should also advise Sky if yuo wish to transfer your landline number to them.  Sky will then inform VM that you are switching to them and agree a switch date.  If you are still in contract then VM will let you know of any early termination fees.

However, for peace of mind you may want to run the new service in parallel with the VM service  so they overlap. That way you make sure that you are happy with the new providers services ie no speed or connections issues. If that's the case then you need to tell the new ISP that it's a migration and not a switch, and you will still need to place a cancellation request with VM by giving 30 days notice
