Universal remote (SofaBaton X1)

Just bought a SofaBaton. Only device I can’t get it to work with is my Virgin Stream box.
I’m assuming it’s to do with it using Bluetooth and how you have to pair the remote.
I’ve read a couple of posts on here, some seem to have got it working but I’ve tried those suggestions without luck.
Can anyone definitely confirm they have a Stream box working with a universal remote? And how they did it?

  • I've not managed to get either my LG Magic remote or a One4All working with my Stream box. There have been people who have got universal remotes working with the 360 box, and they worked fine with a previous V6 box, but that has been of no help to me, and I'm not sure there is anything here of people getting it working that is specific to the Stream box.

There is mention on the SofaBaton forum, but again only a failure to get it working.

The only answer I have is either you need to use two remotes, or use the phone.

If you are looking at Reddit, an area to look at is:

I can control my 360 boxes which use the same Horizon interface as the Stream/Flex boses, using my LG Magic Remote.  I'm not sure though if it will work with the actual Stream boxes.  Sometimes either LG or VM updates break the LG Smart remote functioning and it can take around 30 attempts to re-pair them.  I find direct line of sight and using the IR blaster cable that came with the TV helps.

Instead of using Virgin as the set top box I use Ziggo and then Ziggo Mediabox Next.  I'm not sure if Ziggo  Next Mini  will work on the Stream or possibly Apollo or Horizon.

I don't know if you tried a One For All remote but the URC1240 and URC7125 are both available from Amazon, and slightly cheaper than from Argos. You should also be able to return to Amazon if purchased from there and not suitable.

To set up the OneForAll URC7125 - use the SimpleSet setup process and choose Ziggo as the  manufacturer.

I think your more likely to have success with the OneForAll1240 (Contour 4) which needs direct line of sight and works with the code 1582 for the 360 box. It lists different codes for the manufacturers eg Virgin Media, Ziggo and if they don't work it has both a code msearch and also a learning (copy) mode if you can't find a working code for your device. It comes with a leaflet explaining how to learn the code, also available online help.

🔍 Why It’s Not Pairing Easily
Virgin Stream box uses Bluetooth remote protocol, which isn’t always supported seamlessly by third-party remotes like SofaBaton.

Many universal remotes, including SofaBaton, rely on infrared (IR) profiles or Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), which don’t always mesh with Virgin’s proprietary pairing process.

    ✅ Possible Workarounds
Some users have had success using variations of these approaches:

Use IR learning mode: If the Virgin box still accepts IR signals, manually program the SofaBaton by "teaching" it commands from your original Virgin remote.

Check SofaBaton’s app database: Sometimes updates add compatibility—ensure your app and remote firmware are fully updated.

Try alternative device profiles: Some Virgin boxes share command structures with other set-top brands. Try searching for “Virgin TiVo” or similar legacy models in the SofaBaton app.

Bluetooth pairing on the box directly: If the box allows manual Bluetooth pairing, explore its settings. Some users reportedly got this working by triggering pairing from the box while pressing keys on the SofaBaton.

    🛠️ Additional Tips
Use forums like AVForums | Home Entertainment Tech Resource and Community or Reddit - The heart of the internet—there’s a good chance someone’s cracked this setup and shared screenshots or pairing steps.

      On our wavelength

The OP asked if someone had actual experience with the Sofabaton.  Not something copied and pasted from Chatgpt.
