Stream box only

Just had virgin installed and we’ve been given 2 stream boxes, I had absolutely no idea that we wouldn’t be able to record on them.

I’m really annoyed and have been onto virgin who have advised we need to call back in 2 days.
Is it even possible to get a recording box from Virgin now or will we need to rejoin Sky?

I have been given what I think is the Hub 5 box, one with a copper cable attached.

Stream boxes are now the default offering on all packages for both the traditional HFC cable & FTTP networks. Amusedly, this is so that the TV service is compatible with both network types. You should be able to change to the V360 version (one recording box plus Stream boxes for multiroom) for a £50 activation fee.

  • Hi, I moved from Sky Q to the Virgin Stream box (now called Flex) in Nov'23, can't fault it, you have a watch list to put the programs you want to watch in, just click on the show it'll take you to the show, either the relevant app, bbc iplayer, itvx, ch4, ch5 et., it also lists all the series & shows you when the next episode is on.

Also the tv guide is very good, you can look back & watch a show from yesterday over even further.

Far more versatile than Sky Q would never go back

Also if you are in a new XPON area you won't be able to get a V360 box (that has a hard disk in), the Hub 5x doesn't have a coax connection, only Internet, no landline as well

I went with Virgin as my previous supplier Sky could only give me 50 Mbps where as Virgin upto 2 gigs, I'm on 1gig deal,so quite happy

The only issue is if you have to contact Virgin, nightmare, the customer service team all give different answers, say anything just to get you off the phone, they promise things knowing full well they can't, it's the worst part of Virgin, you're alright if you don't have to ring them

  • As far as I know you can still get a 360 box but I must tell you that I had SkyQ previously and now have the Virgin stream box and to be honest with you I think that the stream box is better.  The picture quality is an improvement and even though you cannot record I find that you can get anything you want by simply adding them to your watchlist and you can still fast forward through the ad breaks.  To me it is an improvement on Sky and it won’t be long before everything is streamed anyway.

If I wanted to be stuck streaming stuff (with a stupid amount of unskippable ads) I could just get an Amazon stick or AppleTV, no point in subscribing to get that. The benefit of a recorder is that you can skip ads, it keeps everything together in one place and you can watch it whenever you want, you're not forced to watch it in the small time window before it gets removed from the streaming service.

You can still get a recording box (V360) but it's an extra £50.

  • Hi Mariojane,

Thank you for your post and welcome to the community.

The stream boxes are unable to record and we wouldn't be able to provide a older box that can record.

Is that a policy change Martin? Your colleagues have recently said that a V360 box can be provided for £49.95.
