New stream box - power issues

I received a new stream box last Friday. Quite usefully the box contained two HDMI cables, but no power lead. I have ordered a power lead via the online chat.

I had a spare USB-A to mini-USB lead lying around from an old phone, so connected that to the plug that was supplied. All I got was a message:

Your stream box needs more power to start up. Please plug it into a wall socket using the plug and cable provided with the box.

I followed some of the previous advice on here to update the software, etc., but to no avail.

I then inserted the lead into a plug I had here, and it works fine. Going back to the Virgin supplied plug still fails. Two issues:

  1. I would like my plug back as I use it with a USB-C lead to charge my phone; and
  2. it means I'm not connected via Ethernet (not that I have had any issues with WiFi so far)

For people who have had such a message, did the Virgin supplied lead make any difference, or if that turns up will it make no difference?

  • For the record, I've now received the missing lead plus a new plug, and it works as it should, so I am now connected using the ethernet connexion via the supplied plug, rather than WiFi and my own lead.

Thanks to Virgin Media for sending them, and also I should say I've not noticed any problems using WiFi.

Confused?  You mention the kit was received without a power connection? But you also say the Flex box doesn’t work with the VM power connection?

  • Thanks. There should be a power lead and a separate plug supplied. I had the plug supplied, but not the lead. The Virgin Stream plug has two sockets, one is a USB-A socket [the other an ethernet socket]. The power lead is a USB-A to a mini USB lead, and I didn't get that supplied. One end of the lead is inserted into the plug and the other end into the Stream box, and in theory supplies power and internet signal.
