Mini Box Power problem - Help

I have recently had installation of stream with a second set top box.

Unfortunately I don't have a plug near the second TV in the kitchen, but have a wire which was used for Sky with a figure of 8 style connection at the end. The Virgin Mini box requires a micro USb style socket to provide the power... short of an expensive electrician fitting a socket is there a easy fix, maybe a connection which would allow me to use both?

Any help appreciated.

The Sky cable is called a figure 8 or mickey mouse cable and there wouldn't be an adaptor for it. However you should be able to use a n normal extension lead from the mains socket and connect the Stream box lead to that extension lead.   They are available from around a fiver from Amazon, Argos, Screwfix etc

  • Thanks for the response, have negotiated for an extension lead as suggested, but as there is power underneath the wall mounted TV thought it might look better plumbed in to the available power lead instead of trailing wires across the house.

Is there an adapter to take figure 8 or Mickey Mouse cable to USB mini?

You should also be able to purchase a longer fast usb charging cable such as this one  from Amazon

If you take this route then you need to check that the cable has a Minimum 1.5A ( = 1500mA ) current - also see <here> (You'll need to translate the page to English)

You must not adapt Sky's cable for VM's 360 mini as that could obliterate the mini. The safest and best solution is to run a standard mains extension lead to the mini box to power the mini's external power supply. I don't think most people would want to sort out an extension IEC C7 or barrel connector cable.
