ITV1&2/ITVX - it's a joke.

So we've recently moved away from the V360 boxes to two stream boxes (the reason being is that we're having decorating done and didn't want the fibre cables to have to run around the room to reach the box  etc.).

It has it's downsides as obviously everything is streamed, most apps work fine e.g. BBC iplayer lets you watch live, from the start and if you do it will let you forward.  Channel 5 is the same and even sky sport F1 (not tried the others) works like a treat, lets you watch from the start even when the race programme has started and lets you forward etc.

Now.. ITV.  It's unusable.  Honestly it's rubbish.

  • If you're watching live you can pause, but you can't forward to then catch up again.
  • If you've missed the start of a programme and choose to "Watch from the start" - it takes you to the ITVX app and starts the programme - you can't even pause it never mind forward it.
  • I'm paying for ITX Premium as well

Virgin you need to fix this.  It's nearly 2026 - not 1996.  I can't even watch a live ITV1/2 programme from the start without being able to pause it?  C'mon that's simply not good enough.

I've complained to ITV directly regarding the app and they said they will pass my feedback to the relevant team (which means nothing).

However, I pay you Virgin for the stream service - I could have just used the ITVx app on my tv/amazon stick and get the same service.  Cannot you not store the programmes on your own server?

Can anybody who's used Sky Glass tell me how the ITV channels work there?

I have very serious doubts that there is anything VM can do, much less should. In scenarios such as this, the broadcaster is often King, or at the very least VM are tied to whatever is in their carriage agreements.

It's absolutely no surprise that ITV have shrugged their shoulders - why else do you think they (and other broadcasters) want to encourage an all-streaming future? They get control of your viewing, specifically removing your ability to fast-forward past the adverts.

You may not like being told this, but this is how streaming works compared with recording.

  • I understand streaming, but not being able to pause a live programme when I watch from the start?  And if I'm paying premium I expect no adverts.  I agree it's ITV - their app is just way behind everybody else's.
