Football games unplayable on ps5

Seriously don't bother getting virgin media if you play football games online, it is absolutely shocking how bad it its, 90% of games are totally unplayable.

I have the 1gig fttp which is great for downloading etc, but my ping jumps around like nothing else in online football matches and I either get visible lag or it freezes and then goes crazy fast and out of my control, but my players always seem out of sync with the game not locking onto the ball and just unable to do the simplest of things.

Happens on any football game, at any time of day or night  I get warning for bad ping during matches or really high ping that fluctuates throughout. Warzone/battlefield etc play fine (that i can tell).

Virgin say my setup is fine because my speeds are good and stable, but that's not what gaming is all about.

Honeslty wish I never took the contract out and can't wait until I can change isp.

  • I assume that you are actually on a legacy hybrid coaxial cable connection rather than a Xgs-pon FTTP connection (from your previous posts and hub model) in which case gaming will be inferior to both FTTP and FTTC connections and "rubber banding" a problem regardless of your contracted download speed. Sorry.

  • I have a hub 5 but have FTTP, I can see the fibre cable and watched the engineer fit it.

Your Hub 5 has a fibre connection?  Show us a picture.

What is the make and model of the white box in the picture please?

It is a recent RFoG connection.

The external brown OMNI Box & ONT that we had installed in 2017 is now replaced by bringing the fibre through the wall and into the home to connect to an internal ONT that converts to coax.

So as we look at the picture the white box cables left to right are :
    1) the fibre from the street cabinet
    2) 12v PSU
    3) the push fit coax cable that runs to the Hub or TV kit

This solution means a much simpler conversion from RFoG to XGS-PON.

Check for known faults in your street. Try both methods:

Call the local fault line: 0800 561 0061 – this is an automated number.

    https://www.virginmedia.com/help/check/status/identification/identify

Check the Service Speed:   ( do share a screen shot )

    https://www.samknows.com/realspeed/

Once the test begins click on: Run full test
to include: Latency, Jitter, Packet loss & Upload speed

The same “Realspeed” tests are available as very handy
apps for iPhone/iPad and Android mobile / tablets,
again be sure the run the Full test.

Apologies if I missed it, but I couldn't see any mention of how your games device is connected to the Hub.  If it's over WiFi then that will be the cause of the high ping.

Games playing is always best done over an ethernet connection.

In another post is was mentioned the Hub is cable connected to the PS5.

But asking for a screenshot of the Realspeed test was met with the thread being abandoned.

  • I connect through ethernet to ps5 and unfortunately I don't own or have access to a laptop to show a thorough speed test through ethernet, but here is one from my phone.

As I said previous, the connection is good and stable on everything I play apart from football games (efootball, fifa, ufl) which are the types of games I would usually play the most.

      Hi Cainy_1998,

Can you please run a speed test on the PlayStation device when this is connected via Ethernet to the hub?

The option should be under Settings > Network on the PlayStation.

Please pop back to us when you can.
