Virgin say my email account to be terminated

I have received an email from Virgin Media stating "As you no longer have Virgin Media services, your Virgin Media email address will become inactive. We’ll close your Virgin Media email account in 30 days"

I have had my Virgin email address for over 20 years.  I am now an O2 customer (PAYG phone) and I would like to keep my email account.  When I first subscribed to Virgin, Richard Branson said "Virgin email is free.  Free means free. It will always be free"

Can someone help with this please?

Many thanks

Bill

VM has been clearing out legacy email addresses which are not linked to a VM broadband subscription.

If you have a VM broadband package it may be possible to link the email account to your broadband package. If not, VM will press on with deleting the email in the 30 day time period.

If you need to backup the contents of the mailbox, this topic may help

So, you are saying that when Richard Branson said:  "It is free. Free means free. It will always be free" it was not true? If it was not true then I was invited to sign up under false pretences.

Yes, VM is "mean-spirited" as you put it. We all know that. But they have given you a free email service for 30 years, so you haven't done badly out of them.

Many years ago, I had a phone call from a man from Vrgin (or VM, no idea which) saying exactly that and I should therefore pay for the service.  So I repeated the mantra "Virgin is free. Free means free. It will always be free" and he hung up!

So at that point in time Virgin/VM agreed with me.  I was in Tunbridge Wells by then so it was some time from 1996 on because I that was when I moved to Tunbridge Wells after my marriage broke up.

Whatever may, or may not, have been said or offered in the past, the present reality is that VM is closing down these legacy mailboxes and it is doing so with some resolve and determination.

VM's previous approach was simply to delete the maibox with no warning at all so the 30 day notification does at least give you some opportunity to make the change to a new email address in a managed way.

Hopefully you are already underway with that task because there has been no indication whatsoever so far in the topics on here that VM is making exceptions, or granting extensions to the deadline, unless the user is currently a paying customer with a VM broadband subscription.
