What happens if you send an email to the old virgin.net address from a new third-party email address?

If the email goes out to your old virgin.net address, and seems to have have been delivered with no error messages, then the old virgin.net mailbox may still exist in a 'locked' condition. If you get an 'undeliverable' message back then the virgin.net mailbox has been deleted.

If you currently have a Virgin Media broadband account then it may be possible to link your virgin.net email account to it. That's the only hope that you have.

VM do not have an option to pay for the continued use of an Virgin email account that is no longer (or in the case of virgin.net email accounts such as yours never has been) attached to a live VM broadband account. So, I'm sorry to say that if you no longer have a VM broadband account there is nothing that can be done to regain access to your virgin.net account.

One of the Forum Team (VM staff who support this forum) will contact you via this thread and if necessary get the details of your VM broadband account from you by Private Message

By the way - I have asked the Moderators to redact (remove) the email address from your post. It is against this Forum's rules to post personal information such as email addresses on this forum.

  • Hi JohnT4 👋.

Thanks for reaching out to us and welcome to the Community Forums, sorry to hear that you are having issues with an email address that we have closed down. We sent out communication to customers that the email address in question will be shut down 30 days from the communication. There is the option to save the email address if you have active Virgin Media services with us bearing the same name as the account that retained the email address.

Without that here is nothing further that we can do, we do apologise.

It is indeed very unfair treatment to delete a mailbox without warning.

        See my reply here

        https://community.virginmedia.com/t5/Email/i-went-to-log-into-my-virgin-net-email-address-this-evening-and/m-p/5592326#M281996

for some links to how others have managed to regain temporary access to their mailbox (basically by kicking up as much fuss as possible with as many different points of contact who might be able to help)

In some cases, the VM forum team do offer to try to regain temporary access (such as the VM response to the above OP) but it seems very random as to when/if that is offered.

IMHO, if VM has deleted the mailbox with no warning, then VM should offer temporary reactivation as a matter of routine if the customer asks for it.

I hope you can regain access to recover your data and move your services to a new email address.

  • Nobody expects it but you were given a warning that it was going to happen but chose to ignore the notifications.

I am sure they have covered their backsides legally so you won't have a leg to stand on.

It's gone and you'll just have to work with your other services to find an alternative way to recover those accounts.

Once you have done so make sure you set up more than one recovery option for each account.

The preferred route would be for the VM forum team to offer to try to regain temporary access for you. But that is at their discretion whether to try or not.

Failing that, refer to the link I gave in my first reply to the topic on page 1. That gave some links to routes which others had tried to regain temporary access.

No guarantees you will get the same outcomes due to the random way VM responds to the same queries. It seems to be very much a case of making your own luck as to whether you get back in or not. Time is not on your side though before the mailbox is deleted entirely.
