Preventing repeat spam

I have a problem with repeat spam. The sender varies and I always add the sender to the blockllist. The problem is that the email always shows the recipient to be fredschoor@ziggo.nl and not myself! What is going on?

How has VM email been circumvented and how do I put a stop to it please?

  • Interesting one as I am pretty sure Ziggo in the Netherlands is the company that handles emails on behalf of Virgin Media/Liberty Global.

  • i have the same problem getting about 6 emails a day showing the recipient to be the same fredschoor@ziggo.nl

Evidently the spammers are using this address as a blind copy i have put the address in the blocked list does not stop it. i have looked up lots of stuff on this.I have contacted acml.nl which is a site in holland to report this yesterday will have to see what happens. another suggestion was don't open the emails up just delete them.

I did also try to put a rule in if there is any mention in the email of fredschoor@ziggo.nl to just delete it. Again have to wait to see what happens.. Perhaps somebody on Virgin media can help. wil update you

I am getting fed up with them used to get a few its know out of hand

Thank you Albi1 for this input. I used to just delete them but like with you it has now got out of hand. Here is hoping that a VM specialist will come in to assist

Consider creating the following Filter Rule in webmail:

NB flag colour is set to help identify messages moved to Spam folder by this rule

Look forward to learning about your outcome, Albi.  I have had 2 fred messages today , one offering a coffee maker and the other a mystery box.

I have now set the rule but I could not find the coloured flag that was referred to. Can you help please?

Thanks!  I've recently started receiving dozens  of junk/phishing email, purpotedly originating from @ freecellenligne.com - with names made up of scrambled letters.  I've followed your advice.  With BT Internet mail, you can block the sending domain but that's not an option with Virgin.  Thanks again.

Select Add action and then Set colour flag, as highlighted below:

So far no further fred spam so I think that the rule has worked. Many thanks to vip. How is it for you Albi?

  • This is frustrating me too. fredschoor@ziggo.nl is being used as the primary cc in a blind copy email.  The emails appear to be sent either from myself or from a store such as Argos, Morrisons, etc.  But if you look at the “from” email address it is actually a random jumble of letters followed by “@freecellenligne.com”.  Today I received one from “tiyixnlnjw@freecellenligne.com” but the next email will be a different combination of letters before “@freecellenligne.com”.  I tried to find out if there is a way of blocking this domain, but no success. Freecellenligne is a gaming website and I’m guessing it gives you an email address when you sign up, which is how the sender of these spam emails is getting so many different addresses.  So of course, blocking the sender is pointless as it’s a different email address each time. Trouble is, I don’t know how to report this to the Freecellenligne website, as it is all in French!

I would love it if someone can solve this problem as I am getting six or seven of these spam emails in my inbox every day and it’s incredibly irritating.

HI guys and gals lovely sunny day.

Yes i used VIP s  methodology and i am not getting any messages from our Fred in my live our outlook.

When i go into virgin media mail its sending them to spam i think they were from yesterday so i just  delete them..

so at the moment touch wood its going ok .So Elsie ! try it word for word..Happy Days. Why is our life blighted by these people. Today i went to my allotment and some miserable people have unlawfully entered and stolen lots of vegetables Rhubarb, sprouting broccoli and eight of my cauliflowers that have taken 10 months to mature . So yes what a society we live in today nothing is sacred.

Hi.  Over the last few days, I've been getting plagued with spam purporting to be from freecellenligne.com, again with various scrambled letters before the @  I'ts damned annoying isn't it!  I keep blocking them on Outlook and 'Blocklist' them on Virgin media but they're still appearing frequently.  My Dad had BT intenet email and with that, you can block the domain but that's not an option on Virgin.  What have you done to remedy this jinx?  Any luck?

    On our wavelength

Today I received an email purporting to be a "Virgin - Membership Termination Notice", even though it's addressed to fredschoor@virgin.com, which is not my email address - mine is a blueyonder one. Furthermore, for well over a year now I've been receiving similar spoof emails containing "I found these old pictures..." pretending to be from two people I've corresponded with in the past, one being my brother, the other a friend's wife - and they've assured me that they didn't send them.

It seems to me that Virginmedia's email system is insecure.

      Hi Ianpb,

Thanks for posting and sorry to hear you're receiving some spam emails.

You can forward the email to us at phishing@virginmedia.com so we can investigate. If you receive a 'Spam Content Found' error when forwarding a suspected phishing email to us via Webmail, it means that we're already aware of the email and have taken steps to ensure the email is blocked on our platform.

You can find additional help here

Sadly an automated option to block by domain is missing. Consider creating a filter rule similar to following:

NB flag colour action is set to help identify messages moved to spam folder by rule. The condition only matches message from domain freecellenligne.com. To add further domains simply prefixed with | character, for example freecellenligne.com|example.com — i.e. From email address domain is freecellenligne.com or example.com
