Are you viewing your Virgin Media email account using your VM Webmail account on the VM website or are you using an email app or client such as Microsoft's Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird or perhaps a Mail app on your phone?
If you are using an email app or client you should sign into your VM webmail account on the VM website and check whether the problematic email folder and its contents display correctly there.
If they are present and display correctly in webmail then you have not lost the emails but there is a problem with them not displaying correctly in your app.
