Lost emails on secondary accounts

Hi, Panic.... we seem to have lost all emails from several secondary NTL accounts?
The primary one still has old emails, (going back years), but most importantly, the one my wife uses to book holiday and the like have all gone? (So booking details etc have disappeared)!
Help please?

  • Hi TrevorBurdett

    Welcome to the Community Forums.

Sorry to hear of your email access concerns.

Was this email linked to an active account? If not, and it was linked to an older, closed Virgin Media account, then any emails not connected to an active account should be removed/deleted within 90 days of the account closure. You cannot transfer/link emails previously used on another active account in someone else's name to a newly active account. So if this email was created on another account, in another name, then this should have been removed from service 90 days after the account was closed.

Let us know if this applies to the email that has been lost.

Thanks for your response Carly, No, it's not connected to an inactive account, it's current.
Only emails in the NTL in boxes of the secondary accounts have disappeared? Virgin addresses are unaffected, as is the main account?

Hating to sound like a broken record here, but again, no one should be using email as a storage facility.  Backups are essential and should be done often to local and/or offsite storage.  AFAIK VM do not backup users mailboxes, so if your "years" of email goes missing that's just too bad.

Yep, you're absolutely correct... and a while back, (I hadn't realy bothered about it), but started to clear 'years' of emails and found it to be a lengthy process, so I gave up!!
      But thanks for your sympathy!!!!

Try Mailstore Home, it gets regular mentions here.  It basically downloads your entire mailbox to a local device for storage.  It allows full searches etc. on this local copy as well.  I would also advise anyone to migrate to another mail service that is not tied to any ISP.
