Is email down right now?

Hi Virgin. Have you broken the email again? Getting the following message:

The attempt to read data from the server “imap.virginmedia.com” failed.

Lots of reports on down detector.co.uk (over a 1,000) with 57% saying email is a problem. Perhaps a pinned post at the top of the forum would help?

  • Thanks for getting back to me. I can access my mail, but I'm frustrated that each time there is an outage I get more spam emails — especially phishing attempts. I haven't changed any of my email settings before or after the outage, it's like the spam filters in VM's email servers have been reset and let it all back through.

    Realistically, things aren't going to change, so all I can do is migrate my email account to another more stable and reliable provider.

  • Something definitely wrong - I keep getting timeouts via outlook....

    This is very frustrating. Every single time there's one of these outages … the end result is more spam.

    It would be good if VM would be more open about what the reason for the outage was and what they're doing to keep spam under control. As other people here have noted, this never used to be a problem, but it now seems to be something that VM can't get to grips with.

    I have other email accounts that have never had a single outage and get much less spam.

      I would strongly suggest you move away from VM email. especially as you already have alternate emails setup.  IMHO the email service is only going one way - New users don't get email since 3 years ago - Leavers get mailboxes purged after 90 days - old non paying users mailboxes are being actively purged.  With normal churn of users coming and  going, it will be only a matter of time when there will be no mailboxes to support?
