How can I keep my virginmedia email

I am moving address next week.  The new address does not support Virgin media.

I am a writer/Photographer and hundreds, if not thousands of people have my virginmedia email address which I have used, via Outlook, for so many years.

How can I keep using it please?  This is important to my future.

(Is there any way of contacting Virgin by letter or email?)  Thank you.

    Sadly 90 days after you leave it will be deleted I would advice setting a new account and transfer all your important emails and update ur other bills with the new email.

    Thank you.  Does that mean I can receive emails for 90 days even when not paying anything?

      Is there any scheme for paying for emails only after the 90 days?

    There is no way of continuing VM email after you leave. You need to set up a new email right away and start moving contacts across. 

    Have you not been keeping offline backups of this important data? You have been taking a risk leaving it all online where it is subject to any number of risk factors.

    Thank you for the news.  Bit of a real crisis for me, as I am moving in 3 days, and there are hundreds of people involved.  If I move, but continue to pay my full package to Virgin, will I still be able to get my emails from them whilst I get sorted?  I do not have a second email at present.  Would Hotmail be okay?  thank you.

      Hotmail (now called Gmail) would be fine but there are many other free email services available - see here https://www.lifewire.com/best-free-email-accounts

      When I retired I decided to stop using the (non VM) email account I had been using and switch to a new one. Advising contacts and updating other online accounts linked to my old address was not as lengthy or time consuming as I expected. certainly not a crisis.

      You will have full use of the VM email account for 90 days from when your broadband account account closes but it's fair to say that VM are not exactly strict on that timetable. You certainly cannot rely on having access to the email account after the  90 days but the chances are that it will still be there for a while after that.

      Finally:

      I would say "don't even consider it". Even if it was possible it is going to confuse things with VM and will probably end up going horribly wrong - you might end up with a new and unwanted 18 month VM contract for example. 

      Sorry, but you do need to bite the bullet and set up a new email account asap.

    You can't have a broadband account without a service at an address. You have 90 days (and possibly a bit more as VM is very inefficient at these things). 

    Since you are familiar with the Outlook app you could sign up for an Outlook email address from which to write to your contacts and tell them of your new address.

    Thank you.  Sorry to labour this point, but just to clarify.  Do I continue to pay Virgin my full package, TV etc. in order that I can work with my @virginmedia account for 90 days?  I will obviously get a new server installed at my new address.  If I bring my PC to a location, such as a cafe or library, would that also suffice.  90 days would give me time to sort everything out for me.

    The 90 days starts from the day your broadband account stops. That assumes VM follows their own rules.

    So I can close it when I move on Wednesday, but get @virginmedia for 90 days?

      Your email address will be available for 90 days after your Contract ends.  The advice by coenoby is spot on.  I did exactly the same, moved to a non ISP based email even though it is a pain to do, it was worth it. 

      Get a new email setup now, and forward all your VM email to your new mailbox.  Also setup a forwarding rule in the VM mailbox to forward all future emails to your new mailbox.  This rule will continue to run until your VM mailbox is finally closed.

    You have to give 30 days notice to close the broadband account.

    Thanks.  that is a relief.  I  will be glad to be shot of VM.  Changing a password is a lifetime experience now.  Could you tell me how to " Also setup a forwarding rule in the VM mailbox to forward all future emails to your new mailbox"

      That's easy.

      Sign into your VM webmail account.

      Click on the cog symbol top right (1)

      When the new menu comes up on the left hand side of the screen click on "E-mail" (2)

      Then you'll see the icon to set up the Autoforward option.
