Get VM emails on Samsung phone

Am trying to help an elderly friend with very limited it skills (mine are not much better!) who is a Virgin customer. She has 2 email accounts, a “,,,virginmedia.com” one and a backup “,,,gmail.com” one.

When speaking to VM helpdesk re issues regarding accessing her VM emails on her PC, we were advised that a VM server had been shut down (?), and in order to access her mails we would have to use the “….gmail.com” email address as a “username”, and bizarrely this is now the way we would have to go in to access the VM account. After a lot of messing around and password changes we eventually regained access to VM account on PC.

The issue we now have is getting VM emails onto her android phone (can get Gmail ones, but this is only a secondary account). Using Samsung Mail app, have tried adding VM as a second account, and even removing Gmail and setting up VM as the only account, all to no avail. I think the confusion is that because the username for the VM account is now the Gmail address, it can’t cope?

Have tried countless email apps in attempt to access the VM emails and speaking to VM helpdesk again to no avail, and even took the phone into a Samsung dealer for them to try. About to give up, and I’m not sure that using a different phone would solve it.  Anyone any ideas please?

Johnny9  The 'gmail' 'username' is only needed when signing into the My Virgin Media account and VM webmail.

To add the virginmedia email address to the Samsung mail app you need to use the full virginmedia.com email address as the username together with a generated app password that you get from the My Virgin Media account for the email address.

See the following help file for full instructions:  https://www.virginmedia.com/help/broadband/manage-email-account
