Email Telephone security word

Hi, only just joined and I have not been able to set up or access my email account, I have change passwords and security question okay, but the telephone security word will not stay, even after it has been accepted the little round information icon just stays there, I have tried to enter the different words with 1 number a number of times but although it has been accepted it is still not working.

When I try to go to the email account it redirects me to the help pages, it's a vicious cercle.

How do I solve this?

Virgin Media no longer issues email accounts to new customers, they stopped doing that 3 years ago. So is the email account in question from another VM broadband  account, perhaps one that was closed so time ago? Or is it your non VM email account? (Do not post the full email address here.)

“telephone security word will not stay, even after it has been accepted the little round information icon just stays there,”

Once you have entered your valid memorable word (one that is between 8 and 10 characters and contains at least 1 number)  In both those boxes just press "Save" and you’re done !

    • The new memorable word will have been updated but it  is not displayed in the account for security reasons.
    • Also,  the information icon against “Memorable word” stays there all the time - it just explains the purpose of the Memorable word. It does not suggest there is an error or that the new memorable word has not been updated and saved.

To me that suggests there is no VM email account associated with your VM account – as I said earlier, VM no longer supply new customers with a VM email account.

  • Oh wow, really? So, with this new broadband service, you don’t even get an email account? That’s a bit surprising! What are you meant to do—go out and buy a domain name and set up your own email server or something? I can do that but I that feels like a lot just to send a few emails!

"So, with this new broadband service, you don’t even get an email account?"

That's right. It's the same with BT and Sky - they both stopped issuing email accounts to their new broadband customers quite a while ago. I'm not aware of any broadband provider that still offers their own email accounts to new customers.

"What are you meant to do—go out and buy a domain name and set up your own email server "

You could do that if you want to but it's not necessary.

"that feels like a lot just to send a few emails"

There are lots of free email services on offer from dedicated email providers. Google's Gmail and Microsoft's Outlook.com are the market leaders but there are lots of others - see here for some ideas:

They are all easy to sign up to and create your email account and they will all work perfectly well with your VM broadband.

I suppose that's called progress, or another way to save money and provide less for less.
