When I try to sign in to my email account I get a long message with the heading:-

Your Virgin Media Mail account is currently unavailable

It then gives detailed instructions to reset my password but I've tried several times and all I get is a message from Virgin saying 'something has gone wrong at our end'. Too right it has!

I don't see how I'll ever be able to get into my email account again. I rang Customer Serices and I held on for about 45 minutes and finally gave up. Clearly large numbers are trying to get through to them because of similar problems.

It really is time for the remaining people still clinging bravely on to VM email to start moving to a different email provider.

VM are clearly running down their email service and these problems are going to continue.  Better to move now while you do so in your time and not under pressure when it finally closes for good.

It's a shame they don't just admit it. If nothing else at least we would know where we stand. It's been obvious for a while now that VM have very little interest in providing anything more than a barely adequate email service in the hope that people give up and move on.

  • Finally this is appearing on Service Status. It now says:-

    Status    Outage Identified and Raised

Estimated fix time   Today at 9:02pm.

    Details

Virgin Media Mail is having trouble Sending and receiving emails at the moment, so there might be a bit of a delay. We are sorry about this, our engineers are looking at fixing this as soon as possible.

  • Email has returned, but I've also had 2 broadband blips as well now.  the way the email is now flowing in makes it look very like an Exchange Server issue. When you get an exchange serve outage for reasons only known to MS it send the most recent first and the oldest last. I altered my Outlook to show time of send to time of receipt. Record so far is sent 10.15 received 19:16.

The fault no longer appears on Service Status so I suppose it is fixed. But my password no longer works so I had to change it , which worked this time (it didn't earlier this evening). The whole thing is a repeat of what happened to me in October 2023 - that too was only resolved by changing my password.

  • Problems again tonight after 10, been getting "emails unavailable" messages just got in again but for how long. Are virgin doing some updates, if they are let's hope it will reduce the amount of spam being received.

  • I have also received the same message.  "Oops, looks like something's gone wrong on our side."  I received this message when trying to access my specific web based virginmedia email address, using my linked Gmail address as login (as usual) - this has worked fine up to now.   So I then tried to access my main virginmedia account using my other Gmail address that is linked to the main account (again, always worked fine before) - got another message "we're sorry this isn't the page you wanted. It's something at our end, and we?re working as fast as we can to fix it."

What is going on here.  I cannot be doing with this unreliability.  I am paying a large sum of money for this service each month - perhaps its time to reappraise what I am paying for!

      Hi Leon07

Sorry to hear you are also getting this message.

Is there anything listed on the Service Status page?

Are you experiencing the same issue on both Webmail and third party email client?

  • In the end I gave up using the old Virgin email address that I had used for years. Although I could still access the old virgin email address via the Virgin website it was not much use (I rarely use the web to access mail - never had to) I needed to access it on my other platforms - Windows, Apple etc which is where I usually deal with my mail (I had used this Virgin email address for 10 years or more on these platforms).  Whatever problems Virgin created messing with emails, it seems it could not be fixed for me after being a loyal customer for years.  So I just decided to opt out of further pain and reverted to a different email address on all my other platforms - of course I then had to notify all of my contacts, suppliers etc of the new address to use.  A totally mystifying and unedifying experience with Virgin. Who knows what they are trying to do with their email service!!!!

Consider VM have not given mailboxes to new users for over 3 years.  They are actively purging mailboxes of non paying customers.  Any users who leave VM have 90 days before those mailboxes are also purged.  I think it isn't hard to answer your comment ?

Anyone still using VM email should consider themselves on borrowed time. How many warnings do you need?
