Using webmail, have you checked that they haven't moved to another folder, deleted or junk mail?  Otherwise I'm afraid they are lost.  Virginmedia don't keep email backups, they recommend users to keep backups of important data.

If the folders themselves are missing then also consider confirm they appear and are subscribed to under ⚙ > E-mail > Change IMAP Subscriptions…

      Hi Ayisha

I've tried the things suggested by the other members of the forum as per their kind suggestions but the email archive is still empty and missing around 2900 email dating back many years could someone from the virgin tech team perhaps look into this for me ?

Hi SimonR2 thanks for your reply here.

Unfortunately, if you have tried the above and this is without success then I am afraid the emails are not going to be obtainable to retrieve if they have been removed - we are really sorry for any inconvenience caused.

        Many thanks

Simon, you have to understand that VM is running down their email service.

They stopped issuing new email addresses over two years ago. Existing emails are supposed to be continued for the moment, but there has been a long history of operational failures and hacking. Sadly you are not the only user to have lost their data.

VM have the excuse that they have never guaranteed to keep your emails safe, and they have always made the very sensible suggestion that users should keep their own backups of important data.

If you want to avoid this situation happening again, I can only suggest that you start the process of moving all your contacts over to a more reliable and hopefully longer lived email service. And of course keep an offline backup.
