Difficulty accessing virginmedia.com emails on Samsung Phone

have just upgraded a Samsung phone. On the old phone, set up in 2020, Mail could access my virginmedia.com emails without problem (this a secondary account). Setting up my new phone, I was asked when trying to log into the account that I needed to associate this with a non virgin email address. Used a gmail account. I can access my mail via virgin media web but I am struggling to set up  Mail access on the phone.
