Compromised email account

I have undertaken a digital footprint check and found that there is another user on my Virgin email account. I have their user name and date of birth, but I dont know how to get them removed from the account.

Can someone in VM help me with this please?

"there is another user on my Virgin email account"

    That sounds very strange.

I am not a member of VM staff but could you clarify a bit as to how you are aware of that?

    For example:

    • Are you seeing this additional user listed in the "Additional Virgin Media online accounts" section of the Account settings in your My Virgin Media Account.
    • or are you seeing it listed in the Account settings of your VM webmail account?

If it's listed in either of those you can delete it yourself if you wish.

However, if you are aware of it by some other means it would save you time if you can clarify it a bit more to save the VM staff asking you unnecessary questions when they get to your post.

Thank you coenoby for getting back to me.

I used a Malware Bytes tool to check your digital footprint, it shows if your email address has been included in any data breaches and also any strange actions on your email account. My blueyonder email address shows a user name which I have no knowledge of. It also shows that my IP address is visible from that email address and also the passwords that have been compromised. Only 1 of the 3 passwords shown is one I made. It also shows 6 on line accounts that have been compromised, I have changed my passwords and email address on all of those.

However I am concerened that the other person shown as using that email could cause me problems. I now only have my Virgin Media account sending regular emails to that email address, though I have given them my gmail account details as well.

I hope this helps the VM staff.

My blueyonder email address shows a user name which I have no knowledge of.

      Thanks for the update.

I did not have a Blueyonder email account - my "pre Virgin Media" email address was an Ntlworld address.  However, I do know that the old Blueyonder accounts had the option of creating an alias address for each email account.

Alias addresses  were not separate, secondary email accounts the were merely an alternative address for the main Blueyonder account. Virgin Media still support those that exist but as far as I know VM  soon stopped new Blueyonder aliases from being created.

If this mystery other user refers to a Blueyonder.co.uk  email address then I suspect that it is merely an alias to your main email account. You could try sending a test email to it and see if the test email arrives in your main Blueyonder account. If it does then that proves it's merely an alias address for your main Blueyonder account.

Based on lots of other post on this forum over the years these alias accounts do often seem to get forgotten about and cause confusion.  It could well be an alias was set up years ago and possibly never used.

If it is, than just to let you know, as far as I am aware there is no way for either you or VM to delete it. It's not doing any harm though so it's not a security issue.

    Hi Coenoby,

It is an old Blueyonder account and I cannot remember being asked to set up an alias account, especially as this one has a date of birth that is nothing like mine.

I think it maybe okay, I changed all my passwords on the different sites I use when I changed my email address, so they won't be accessible. I need to get VM to use my new email address and then I will get them to delete the VM email account.

    Thanks for your help.

I don't know what to do next as the private messaging is clearly not working.
