big problem with an old email address

Hi,

I have a problem concerning an old "@virgin.net" email address. I haven't used this address for many years and I believe it may no longer be working. I have the password but it doesn't seem to work. 

The problem is that this is the email address that is linked to my Apple ID, and they have suddenly started challenging me to prove my identity. They are sending instructions to my virgin.net email address, which I can't access. 

Can anyone help?

    The first question will be whether this address is linked to a current Virginmedia broadband account. If it is not than it has very likely been closed by VM.

    But in any case, VM email seems to be having various issues at the moment, judging from other reports on here, so you may find it better to use a more reliable email account for that purpose.
