Accessing e-mail with Outlook etc

Seen people having similar problems, just need to get confirmation.

The account we are trying to set up is my wife's, we can access it with no problem using browsers and have the password available, but I am unable to set it up with e-mail clients Outlook etc, I do know that we have changed the password which I have. 

Seen answers to a similar problem several times, just want to clarify, saying

"MyVM > Account Settings > Account details > Mailbox App password management"

I can't see this, but what I can see is underneath  inbox my folders etc is add email account
I
s this where add a non virgin email account to get the password set up?

    (although worth noting some customers seem to get stuck in a loop of being unable to verify the new 3rd party email address and some report not seeing the features in My VM to be able to do the above.)

    The mailbox should be accessed via My VM using the 3rd party email address and password.  When using an "app", in this case Outlook, the mailbox is access by the "old" email address,  e.g. me@ntlworld.com or me@virginmedia.com and the new 4 word generated password.

      Thanks for the reply, bit confused as to how I add the 3rd  party email address to my virginmedia e-mail account  and password to get new 4 word generated password.
      As mentioned in my post, I have access to the virgin media via browser?

    Just for completeness and to clarify what.....

    ...that you are seeing in the VM webmail account is all about.

    It is possible to use a VM webmail account to manage other email accounts, rather like an email client such as Outlook.  What you are seeing there is the option to add another email account to your webmail account. It's nothing to do with the 3rd party email account process.
