3rd part email address settings to login on Outlook or similar.

Hi,

Thanks for reading.

One of my email addresses was apparently hacked and then access was closed/denied by Virgin Media staff.

Weeks of reporting this issue were met by promises that "it would be fixed in a few days" but of course that did not happen. My main business account saw me lose work as obviously, I could not access those emails.

Today I had to set up a third party email account to access those emails and despite repeatedly asking for the settings involved I was eventually told I had to use that 3rd party email (Gmail account) to access an NTL account.

I will cut to the chase as I am pretty annoyed at the lack of understanding in Virgin's help desks.

What I need, if any of you know are: what settings you need to access an NTL-hosted account of a Gmail email address in Outlook for example. Confused? I am!

Port numbers, POP3, smtp.virginmedia.com etc.  Have tried various combinations but cannot get anything to work.

Accessing my Gmail account does not give me access to my NTL account emails.

Thanks for any assistance.

The settings can be found in the help link above.

For access via an app such as MS Outlook the username remains your full Ntlworld email address not the third party email username.

You need to generate an app password to use with email clients.

VM have recently changed the log in requirements for accessing VM Mail via third party apps.

If you change the password for the account in My Virgin Media > Account settings > Account details you will not be able to use the new password to access the account via an email client. Email client access now requires an app specific password which can be generated in the MyVM > Account Settings > Account details > Mailbox App password management

The third party email username is only needed for accessing your My Virgin Media account and the VM webmail page both of which require the account password not the app password.

      Hi Highlander_Man,

Thanks for posting, and sorry to hear you're having some issues with your email.

How have you got on after following the advise from Graham_A?

        Tuning in

Apologies to Graham but was away overnight at a funeral.

Did not work for me. In Outlook tried the POP3 settings and IMAP with the password given by VM and my own, ususal email address.

        Nothing worked.
