Virgin Hub Modem Mode Question

Hi, can anyone tell me if I put the Virgin hub into modem mode will I be able to use the single working (port 1) Ethernet port to access the internet from my laptop or when its connected to my tv?

Also can I add a 5 port network switch to this single working Ethernet port to allow more connections?

If the above is not possible could or would I have to add a non-wifi modem to the working port on the hub and then use all the ports on the new modem.

The aim of this is to remove wifi as a connection option.

    The. Router I use does not have WiFi, it’s a UniFi UDM Pro, but it has many sophisticated functions, unfortunately will cost you £360.

    I did not realise that was an option. I have a customer who wants to remove the Hub completely so there is no WiFi in the property, which is not possible as Virgin will not allow their Hub to be removed.

    I thought about putting the router into modem mode as it makes it passive then the above questions. 

    Is it possible?

      Yes in modem mode the Hub is just a modem, no other functions, no WiFi etc.  Just connect a non WiFi router and your Customer will be happy.  For example Draytek Vigor 2927

    In modem mode you can only connect one device to a VM hub, this is usually a router, but could be a single device. You cannot connect a switch to the hub and use multi ports on the switch in modem mode. I have never tried it, but you cannot connect perhaps turn off WiFi on the VM hub. Why do you need WiFi turned off? Cannot you just rename the SSIDs to something like ‘WiFi-not-to-be-used’.

      Thanks, so in modem mode one item ie a laptop can be connected via ethernet and will work ok?

        Yes the hub in modem mode allow one source MAC for one WAN IP to have many devices they need to come from this one MAC by this one WAN IP. Most get a router that does NAT you can get high end routers without wifi

    Can't you just turn off the Hub's wifi?
