New Forum..theme and design comments

What  do you think

Now we've lost a lot of facilities that used to be in previous Themes

Post editing facility, gone

Signatures, gone

Users on line, gone

Page thread view count, gone

Page numbering, gone

Video thumbs need cookie acceptance printed over the top of the thumb now

Text messages showing in one column about one third of width of page on my screen

Ability to view newest posts first in a long thread or to go to the latest post quickly, gone

So  far this is what I've noticed . Is this an improvement or not?

  • The edit a post facility is not updating to the newer version

Try refreshing the page to see if it updates after you have edited.

Try going back into edit again (the edited text is likely to still be there). Press the update button again to post.

I normally find one of those two routes allows the edit to appear.

  • I keep getting HTML (span/style) errors when trying to post new topics on the community boards although my post had zero HTML ( I even pasted the text back in as plain text).

Posting the same post on the Networking-and-WiFi board was hassle free however. Maybe they don't like my community posts...

I had this previously when trying to insert images or use the 'quotes' feature or insert links but this now seems to have been resolved for me (using Brave browser on Win10). I like the quotes feature now it works!

The overall experience remains totally unpredictable and unreliable though.

  • Vodafone UK has ditched its community forum and is only doing mainstream social media channels now. Its German sister company still has a Khorus community forum.

How long before the two VMO2 Khoros community forums are folded? This one feels like it is dead on its feet in terms of traffic and interaction. I reckon it's only a matter of time.

      Agree entirely!

  • Image posts are dated from when they were approved not from when they were posted a day previous.  I think forum staff are only working  office hours now.

  • Thank you for your reply.  Unfortunately, I don't have that button available on my mobile screen at least.  Perhaps it's only visible on a computer.

If you are on the forum home page

      Home | Virgin Media Community

the 'Start a Discussion' button is not present.

If you enter one of the forums, using the 'hamburger' triple lines button in the top LHS of the screen on a mobile device, then the 'Start a Discussion' button should appear at the top of each forum page as per coenoby's screenshot.

If you still don't see the button, you'll need the forum mod's to look at your account to see what the issue is. The current forum software has more than a few glitches and problems.

100 days since the new forum format was launched.

Some of the original issues seem to have been fixed (inserting hyperlinks and images).

Notifications are now pretty much broken for me which does make trying to follow a number of topics rather hard without being notified of any topic updates.

I do not get notifications (either via email or the bell icon) when general forum users reply to topics.

I do get some notifications (both email and bell icon) when VIPs or Forum Team 'mention' me or when a solution is accepted.

'Likes' on a post are recorded under the bell icon (I have them switched off for email)

Sometimes the notifications list under the bell icon disappears entirely leaving white space only.

Frequently keep getting logged out (despite checking the 'keep me signed in' option)

Behaviour of the 'edit post' feature randomly fails to update requiring a repeat edit/update.

The forum-specific help page has gone. Links to 'Digital Life' seem to have gone.

General volume of topics, and replies to topics from forum regulars, seem to be down IMO. Less than half of those listed as VIPs make any regular public contributions.

Seems like the autumn days of the forum since the switchover IMO

  • I got a bell notification tonight, I had a look, it was for Digital Blog, when checking I found that there where no new messages in it, and that all the messages in it were 8 years old 🤔

That is the new 'Wayback Machine' feature of the forum! It calls up random and irrelevant notifications from the past.

I get these same three ancient notification messages just before some of the many, many occasions when the forum randomly logs me out!

The forum of old is long gone; it's a bit like where I live.  Any character has been replaced with nothing of substance.  I get bombarded with "Use Co-pilot!" stuff.  I think I still have a functioning brain.  This is no longer helpful or useful and commercial internet has now hit its peak; it has nowhere to go.

IMO AI is a last gasp attempt by big tech to maintain some interest in it (the internet), but there isn't really a consumer case for it and a lot of people won't be upgrading their hardware; apart from maybe a cheap nasty min spec Windows 11 effort in order to read emails.🙁

  • Back to the survey pestering, I knew it wouldn't be long before they got around to that again.

Old notifications still popping up with frequent log outs during the session
