    1. Never cancel your Direct Debit. VM won't care, they'll just send bailiffs round to collect what you 'owe'.
    2. Send a recorded letter by post https://www.virginmedia.com/help/cancel-virgin-media
    3. VM are currently being investigated by Ofcom https://www.ofcom.org.uk/about-ofcom/bulletins/enforcement-bulletin/open-cases/cw_01275#:~:text=Ofcom%20has%20today%20opened%20an,following%20complaints%20received%20from%20consumers.
    4. Your complaint will be filed with others under resolved without any word on how or what has been done to resolve (It won't be resolved).

Thanks for your answer, these people are unbelievable, ignorant individuals.

Gangsters  disguised as a service provider.

  • This is really surprising, when I cancelled earlier this month I didn't have any such issues at all, just told them I wanted to put in my notice, was accepted and then later that day got an email to confirm.

Try calling and going through to the I'm changing address which then allows you to select I'm thinking of leaving, that's what I did.

Have to agree though it is a major PITA, took me over 40 mins of being on hold before I spoke to somebody.

Early days but I just last week signed up to Community Fibre, had a query and got through to their CS within minutes and they answered my query there and then, maybe too early and too small a customer base but there again I'm easily impressed 🙂

    On our wavelength

Don't worry about cancelling the DD, just keep an eye on bills and use the online payment system, as you don't want to get into a world of pain. No extra charge for no DD.

However, the online billing does not display any credits due at cancellation. The payment page is aware of them.

  • I've been looking at this, because I plan to cancel at the end of my contract. I read that you have to sending your cancelation in writing to Virgin Media, Sunderland, SR43 4AA, including your name, address and account number. Send it by registered (signed for) post.

Does anyone know if I'm right: at the end of my contract, I give 30 days notice - out of contract - which will cost me £160...? Incidentally I am trapped in an over spec'd contract for another 12 months when my business is on the rocks and I can barely cover my basic budget. If I try to drop phone and tv inside my contract it will cost me £500 in charges (only £360 to grin and bare it til July 2025). You can go through the change of circumstance if you are claiming Universal Credit (which I can't get becuase of my business set up) but then I think you only get a very low MPS service which is no good for my creative business and in trying to find workt o save myself.

I wish I could 'use fart spray as a weapon' through the door of head office. I might feel a little better!

    Very Insightful Person

I recently cancelled via Recorded letter and it was fine. Had two short phone calls from Retentions around trying to keep me, but I was leaving irrespective of any deals.

I still had the old box for the Hub, so printed the Yodel label and sent off without any issues.  Tracked delivery via Yodel app and all went as it should.
