Xbox series x wifi6

Hi,

Brand new customer, just installed today..have noticed that my Xbox series x only connects via WiFi 4, not 6..any suggestions to get it onto 6?!

I'm stumped, VM connect app not working and neither is my virgin media app?

Not exactly a great start!

Best to cable, if not possible look at powerline adapters.  VM may want to rent you Pods for £8 pm as a solution depending on what Contract you are on.

  • AHH! Maybe this, router is downstairs, Xbox is upstairs, probably too far away then!

True, but there is a lack of  information.  It may be the XBox is too far away to lock onto the 5Ghz band.

I assumed mentioning Wi-Fi 4 means the X-BOX is picking the 2.4GHz band.

    A Hub 5 has Wi-Fi 6 on both bands.

  • Oh, that's interesting, I was led to believe series x was WiFi 6 compatible.

    I stand corrected, thanks!

Yes, "compatible" as in it will work with a Wifi 6 router or Access Point.  I use an ethernet cable, can't be bothered faffing around with Wifi if I can cable ...  ;-)

Xbox Series X is 802.11ac Wifi 5.  You can't upgrade the internal Wifi to Wifi 6 802.11ax.  It will work with Wifi 6 routers, but will not be any faster.

As for the Connect app, I think VM were having issues with this today, as there were several threads this morning about connectivity.  Personally I don't use it.
