Xbox series S Network keeps disconnecting

Anyone else having the same issue with the Xbox network? I have the Virgin 5x Router. Recently got an Xbox series S and almost every time I try to play online it disconnects me. I have tried port forwarding, still no luck. I’m no tech genius but reading through Google, it seems a pretty common problem. Wondered if anyone managed to find a solution because the help support from virgin is either nonexistent or basically, they can’t be bothered to help and palm me off saying it’s the Xbox’s issue. Which I know it isn’t because when I hotspot my phone it works perfectly fine.

Apologies if this thread has been made hundreds of times before. I got sick of reading threads from years ago and not getting anywhere with them.

No, it’s on WiFi. I don’t have a long enough Ethernet cable to try it plugged in.

I suggest either securing a sufficiently long cable or else disabling smart wifi on the Hub and only connecting the console to a 2.4 GHz band.

Many folks have ( but choose to ignore ) a Wi-Fi coverage problem caused by expecting one VM Hub to cover a larger family home or to cover a town house with multiple concrete & rebar floors.

If this is your situation, please address this problem first by investing in a Wi-Fi network that is suitable for the size and the construction of your property.

Share the quality of your VM connection :

Use the link below in any device's web browser ... E.g. your X BOX's web browser.

    https://www.samknows.com/realspeed/

Once the test begins click on: Run full test to include: Latency, Jitter, Packet loss & Upload speed.

Post a screen shot of the Full Test results.

For mobiles this test is also available as the very handy "Samknows Realspeed" app.

Really ? When one can use :

        Wi-Fi Access Points
        Wi-Fi Mesh in AP mode
        Wi-Fi Repeaters
        Wi-Fi Powerline extenders
VM Pods ( avoid like the plague )

None of this requires Modem mode.

This is obviously from my phone. However the Xbox is within 4m of the router. Both in my lounge so WiFi strength cannot be an issue. And we’ve got maybe 10-12 devices running on the WiFi. Half of them are probably not running either (Bose speaker, tvs, tablets etc).

    So far no issues.

But do share a run the Full test.

  • So I’ve done a full test on my Xbox. I’ve now got a Ethernet cable long enough to reach my Xbox. These are the results. Now my Xbox says the NAT is moderate when it should be Open. Any ideas now?

Have you set a static IP on the Xbox that is outside the DHCP scope?  Have you done the required Port forwarding for that IP address?

So a little update. I disabled the UPnP, rebooted the router and enabled the UPnP and rebooted again and the Nat setting showed as ‘Open’. This is while it is connected to wired connection. And has worked tonight whilst I played it. I’m dubious as to whether it’ll continue to work when I try it again though. Probably due to me being a massive pessimist 😂

However whilst on wireless (my preferred optioned so I don’t need to run a wire everytime I want to play online) I did do port forwarding to the IP address and the required port…it temporarily worked for like an hour then stopped the next day I went on it. So I’m none the wiser as to what the problem actually is.
