Hi my son has told me that the WiFi pod in his room is making a noise like a fan and is hot to touch, is this normal or broken. Also how do I also go about getting a third pod I have two at the moment

A small point, but nothing to do with your problem.
VM pods should never be placed in the same room as the target device. Ideally they should be mid way between the VM hub and the target device. They are not magic and being in the same room as the target device just means they receive exactly the same strength signal as the target device and do not work as designed. Pods can only extend a WiFi signal contrary to what VM publish they do not and can never boost a WiFi signal.
