Hub5x (Use SFP Module/Box etc) - Question for people smarter then me.

Hi All,

Hoping for some guidance. I have had no end of issues with the Hub5x. I have put plenty of posts on this forum moaning about it for the past 12 months, so I won't bore you with that. But does anyone know if its possible to acquire some hardware that will act as an NTE for example that allows me to go from Fibre to CAT5, so I can use my own router. Without having the ability of Modem mode (And I don't want to double NAT), I don't know if anyone has explored this option and if its possible to plug the fibre direct into a little box or NTE that will then convert it to CAT5. Similar to what I used to have with BT.

Online gaming is physically impossible for me due to no end of packet loss and latency issues. I have already had multiple engineers out gone through formal complaints and service desk. And the response is "your speeds are fine". The speed is not the issue, its the complete lack of "line quality" which is the problem.

As you should not be altering any VM infrastructure, any reply about this I’m guessing will be removed.

Could be true. Maybe I should just sue Virgin for misselling, probably be a much easier way to resolve these problems.

It all could have worked so well, if VM (Nextfibre) just terminated the supply with a decent ONT.  Having said that, I'm not sure if a 10Gb ONT exists?  I'm only aware of the 2.5Gb ones.

Recently we have read a Hub 5x was operated in modem mode via a 1Gb/s port, but that lasted for a very limited time & then modem mode failed to work again. Are there any threads suggesting the alternative SPF kit provides a solution for continuous operation i.e for months of trouble free operation ?

If this is a fibre line and / or Hub 5x issue we would expect Samknows Realspeed
to reflect similar latency and packet loss issues that are being reported by games.

Samknows Realspeed is also available as a free app for Android & iPhone.

Samknows shows normal, most of the time, but that aligns with the BQM. I have had 1 instance of SamKnows showing high latency and jitter and packet loss, but i would need to run Samknows about 100 times to "catch it in the act"

Line quality issues (that you mentioned) are unlikely to be a Hub 5x issue.  A dirty fibre end going into the hub may be a problem - which you could clean yourself.  Worth a try.

Had 2 engineers out who did that. Still didn't make a difference.
