Hub 5x Questions - 2024

Hello,

Just signed up for 2Gb and have some questions regarding the router, most answers are from last year so keen to verify current position.

1. Where is modem only mode? Is that available yet as alluded to? If not, any ETA? 

2. Is the WAN port on 5x 10Gb? Does it support 2.5Gb?

    1) Hub 5x Modem mode is ETA unknown.

    2) Hub 5x LAN ports are three 1Gb/s ports (yellow) + one 10Gb/s port (metal).
    (no reports that 2.5Gb/s is not supported)

      I'm just off the phone to their "special team" who deals with modem only mode enquiries. He confirmed it is available...

      I believe you, so it's interesting that support are telling a different story. This is a real mess for a prosumer service.

        Thank you for your posts and welcome to our community forums. We're here to help.

        As has been mentioned here by other members of the community, Modem Mode is currently unavailable via the Hub 5x. As for the technical spec, you can find that for all of our current routers here.

        If you're unhappy to proceed with the order on this basis and it hasn't been installed yet then please reach out to the pre-installation team on 0800 052 1734 and they'll be able to assist you further. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

    VM Sales Team would promise it can make an espresso & polish shoes all to avoid you withdrawing your order.

    Reading the various forum threads from Hub 5x customers, we have yet to see reports confirming modem mode is present in the menu and they have got it working.

      That's what I feared. Good job I have the call recorded. I'll file a complaint after installation and see what happens. False advertising has some hefty fines.

        Just be mindful not do share the recording without VM’s consent. You don’t really need it though. The mis-representation induced the sale and so gives rise to breech of contract. You just need the date/time of the call and your own contemporaneous notes made at the time.

    I don't read that from the OP. He's just wanting to get what he paid for. 

  • Regarding the 10Gb port, I have this connected to the 2.5Gb port of my DM SE with no issues.
