Hub 5x - DHCP lost after power cycle

Hi all,

Just wondering is it me only, every time my Hub 5x power cycles it loses all it's DHCP reservations.

Hardware version : 1.2.1b

Software version : 2.40.13-2210.4

Also, anyone know a why to choose my own DNS servers in the hub rather than a separate DHCP and DNS server like a Pi Hole?  Any hidden menu or something?

Thanks

Neil

  • Sounds like one of several bugs in the HUB 5x, which continues to be on permanent 'trial'.

Unfortunately no, there isn't a way to override VM's DNS within HUB settings.

Do you mean the Dynamic IP’s or the Reserved IP’s ?  I would have thought it was normal for a power cycle would remove Dynamic IP’s

I agree with you, Dynamic IP's are Dynamic.  I mentioned reservations, which are all lost every time the router loses power.

The hub 5x is working as intended...as a bad router which is why we need modem mode to use are own router without double NAT which by doing double NAT the hub 5x is still bad to forward given needed traffic we sign up for broadband internet.

Is it the Hub 5x power cycle or the presence of the dreaded
VM Connect app that triggers dropping the Reserved IPs ?

Due to the dodgy left hand side of my toaster, it was a proper power cycle.  Unplanned tests a few times until we discovered what was tripping the power.

I have certain devices I need to fix an IP address for but it loses all DHCP reservations every time the hub is power cycled :-(

I also consider not being able to specify my own DNS servers a privacy issue.

You omit to mention if the VM Connect app is installed on one or more of your devices.

I ask this because we have a Hub 3 and we found installing the VM Connect app will instantly cause the Hub 3 to drop all Reserved IPs ... i.e. those stable local addresses we would like to maintain for reliable access to our HP printer/scanners.
