Fixed IP or CG Nat

Does Virgin Broadband set a fixed IP (v4) for each user?  I'm assuming IP v6 is not available.

If not, does it use CGNat?

The reason I ask is that if I wish to use a VoIP service, or VPN to my home network, CG Nat can/will cause problems.  AFAIK the supplied router is heavily locked down, so port forwarding is unlikely to be an option.

  • In Ireland it's CGNAT on IPv6, unless you ask for IPv4.

In the UK it's IPv4, and relatively static, however can change over time.

VM Home Broadband for the UK uses a very stable IPv4, without SIP ALG,
we have 3 VOIP lines with Sipgate, connected via the UK VM Hub 3 in Router
mode they work fine with or without STUN enabled.

If your asking about some other service or local best to spell that out because VM UK and RoI differ in how the service is provided.

It will be on Virgin fibre ( = NexFibre) rather than cable, so should be OK.  If SIP runs OK the only other problem might be if I VPN to my home network and the IP changes.  There are workrounds so it shouldn't be an unsurmountable problem.
