cctv cannot be viewed remotely

I recently changed from BT to Virgin and can no longer view my cctv remotely, I can view it while I am in range of my hub but no further, HELP !

Please try not to be too technical in your answers IT is not my field and I have very little knowledge of IT terms.

Looks like you need to think about getting a better router and use hub in modem mode.

Doesn't Hikvision use the cloud? If your Hikvision DVR is registered with Hik-Connect and it's connected via Ethernet to the hub, then in most cases no manual reconfiguration is needed especially if the DVR is set to DHCP.

Without know how the many CCTV can work or how you view it remotely like by a app or IP its hard to know the problem.

It can likely be the hub blocks the CCTV outgoing to a server that you remotely connect too to view the feed.

I'm beginning to think this problem is due to the hubs firewall

You might have an older CCTV system but hopefully it has a built-in DDNS client. If so set up an account with a DDNS provider (some are free like Duck DNS and Dynu) and enter your DDNS client credentials, this way WAN IP addresses get resolved automatically.

Now in your hub identify the CCTV's LAN IP address (meaning the DVR's IP address), reserve it (best practice) by adding a reserved rule using DVR's MAC address and the IP address) and create a port forward rule (you can usually use the same port number of, say, 8000 for all four ports) to send requests to the IP address of your CCTV system.

If all of this sounds too hard I recommend upgrading to a cloud-based system.

The cctv is less than 12 months old, I have followed hikvisions instructions to the letter and everything checks out, it has identified the new hub and assigned the IP address, the system indicates I'm online. I have created the port forwarding rules but still I cannot view over the net only wi-fi.

I've installed several Hikvision systems, including two on VM broadband, but with the Hub on modem mode and a better router installed where the two required port routings are set.

So I strongly suspect that the VM Hub is not correctly forwarding the correct ports, and/or there is some other issue with its settings.

Get yourself a proper router, and it will work.

Remote cctv access requires the WAN IP address of your Hub/router, which is assigned by the service provider.  Your address will have changed when you moved to VM.  That's what you will need to change.

Bear in mind that VM might change your IP occasionally, in which case you will have to repeat the process.  You could use a DDNS to keep the cctv connected, but this needs some technical knowledge

Make sure Parental Control are Disabled in the VM Online Account.

Following the CCTV manuals and reset / reinstall the CCTV remote access function.

I've done all of that, I followed hikvisions instructions to the letter, everything indicates I'm online and should be able to view my system but I can't.
