Anyway of getting a static ipv4 public address?

Hi all, I've been away from home for the past week and I lost connection to my home server (accessed through a wireguard vpn) which was an absolute nightmare to deal with. I've just got back home and realised that I've got a public IPV4 lease time, with the current lease set to expire on the 24th September.

I thought VM only offer static public IP addresses but I suppose I was wrong, I wouldn't have went with VM had I known this.

Is there anyway I can request a static public ipv4 address, or keep extending the lease time indefinitely?

Thanks in advance!

Only VM Business offers static public IPs.

Perform an nslookup <public ip>  it returns a customer host name that can also be used to refer to your connection.

Which if your IP changes so does it why people should use no-ip

VM don't offer static IPs on residential connections, but regardless of the leasetime you should find the IP very rarely changes as long as the Hub is left switched on. I've had the same IP for 3 or 4 years now even though the leasetime is only ever 7 days.

  • Where are you seeing the lease time?

VM don't generally alter your Public IP unless:

    • Your HUB changes.
    • You have the HUB in modem mode and change your third party router.
    • Some infrastructure changes are made (Rare).

Edit: Just noted in your previous thread that you are probably on FTTP, so using a HUB 5x?

Public IP address allocation may differ to the 'legacy' HFC network.

Yeah I'm on FTTP, saw it change on the admin dashboard of the Hub. I've got Tailscale setup now so it's all good!
