Alternative mesh system for Virgin Media Broadband

Hi All

I have a 1G broadband provided by Virgin Media though a Hub 4, and due to the configuration of my house, I am also using three of the pods that they supply. However, this does not give me reliable wifi throughout the property. I find I still have some dead zones, and more worrying, some areas seem to have good wifi some of the time which then inexplicably goes dead. For these areas, if I switch off and on the nearest pod, the wifi recovers for a while but this is clearly not ideal.

I was wondering whether anyone has had any success with an alternative mesh system alongside a Hub 4.

Many Thanks

Richard

Many on here use "Mesh" systems to improve their wifi with VM Hubs in modem mode.  Or just add a series of wireless access points - connected directly to the Hub via ethernet cables.

Each "Mesh" set up up has its own advantages depending mainly on price and property features.  A good "budget" range is provided by TP-Link or spend more for Ubiquiti systems - or intermediate ones from Linksys, Netgear, etc.

So what is your property layout/construction and your budget ?

      Hi

My property is only two storey, but has been extended significantly sideways in the past so many of the now internal walls were the external walls and therefore are quite thick and solid brick. That seems to be the main cause of the signal issue. I have managed to get the three VM supplied Pods to cover most of it after much trial and error, moving them around, but as I mentioned in my first post, it's not always reliable so am looking for something better if possible.

As far as budget goes, I'm willing to pay for a good solution, so I don't want to dwell on that too much.

I would prefer a Mesh system as running ethernet cables from the Hub isn't really a solution for me.

I am interested in whether anyone has used such as system with the VM Hub, which ones and if they have found these better than the VM supplied pods.

I'll take a look at the companies you mentioned. I have heard of them all other than Ubiquity and have used TP-Link products previously.

      Thanks

      Richard

Use a wired backhaul by connecting each pod to the hub with an Ethernet cable. Thick walls can always be drilled, how else do you think the coaxial cable got through the exterior wall.
