2.4ghz

Hi all, my issue is,

I’m trying to install a video doorbell, during set up it asks me to connect my phone to the wifi on the 2.4 I have a hub 3 and have no idea how to pick which band to connect as it’s all automatic. Please help? Thanks in advance.

Log onto the Hub and temporarily disable the 5Ghz band.  Once the bell is connected, re-enable the 5Ghz band.

  • Rename the 5 signal to name-5

That'll ensure continued connectivity for existing devices on the 2.4 signal but then your mobile and laptop etc you can reconnect in the new -5 network.

This works well but be warned if you have the hub5. The newer router has a bug,or at least it did 9 months ago, and doesn't like having the WiFi hostnames renamed from factory setting as it seems to break DNS.

    Cheers

    Chris

      Hi,

I have HUB5 and distinct names for the 2.4ghz and the 5ghz networks.  Seems to work OK.  Any detail on the bug?

      Kind Regards,

      Bill

You'll also notice WiFi stability generally improved around the house with the devices that connect to 5g WiFi staying connected instead of hunting for 2.4.

Again, unfortunately not available to us Hub5 users because of the bug

Hub 5 Firmware version : LG-RDK_4.6.24-2206.7 (from 2021)  had the Wi-Fi / DNS / DHCP bugs mentioned above.

But this OP has a Hub 3 so the Wi-Fi can be run with split SSIDs without any concerns.

Unless he has Pods, or the Connect app…..

Either are sufficient to sour one's entry into the New Year !

        Have a good one.

  • Hi dbkelly1,

If you are still having problems and haven't got 5ghz and 2.4ghz bands then you need to split your Wi-Fi network, instructions on how to do that are in link below, when you have selected Advanced Settings you will also need to select Wireless, Wireless Signal and click on Disable Channel Optimization  at the bottom then click on Apply Changes.

If you are using pods don't split your network.

Unless you've separated the networks or turned off 2.4GHz on the router - You just connect the doorbell to the Hubs wireless connection.  If you are told to connect to the 2.4GHz band, then the doorbell will most likely be 2.4GHz only so it will only see that signal.  You don't need to do anything special.
