Essential security not saving changes

VM please help. I urgently need to block a couple of websites at home but the essential security page is not saving any changes. I have tried accessing on different browsers and the app but the problem remains. I cannot change the categories of website to block nor add any websites to the blocked list. It seems that this problem has persisted for a long time, looking at other users' comments on this forum. When will it be fixed?

      Hello Markep77,

Welcome to the Community and thanks for taking the time to post here on the forums. I’m sorry to hear of the issues that you’re having with your essential security features.

Have you tried to change the settings via incognito or private browsing mode within your browser? If you haven't please can you give that a try for me. If you try this and it doesn't work, please come back here and we can help to get this looked into further.

      Kind Regards,

      Steven_L

Thanks for the response. No I am not using an Apple device. I am using a Windows laptop. In the past I have been able to change the essential security settings using this laptop but recently no changes have been saving.

  • Hi ABM

    Welcome to the Community Forums.

Sorry to hear of your concerns with essential security not saving your changes. Just to confirm, are you using Apple devices to request these changes? If so, please ensure that Apple/Private Relay is turned off. Private Relay is switched on by default. This bounces a customer's internet connection through a number of different servers, and acts similarly to a VPN, but isn't quite the same thing.

The purpose of Private Relay is to 'hide' the user's internet browsing from their provider and give a degree of anonymity. This also has a side effect on Essential Security (formerly Web Safe) and Child Safe filtering, as it simply bypasses them.

As this is a setting on the device itself, there's nothing Virgin Media can do to fix that beyond the customer themselves manually turning Private Relay off.

You can find out how to manage Private Relay along with more information on the feature via Apple's website.
