Anyone switched to a router/modem with better parental controls?

I'd quite like to set up schedules and more granular content filtering at the network level as a parental control.

I know VM has the Connect app that lets you manually pause, but I'd like something a bit more scheduled.

Plus, the ability to block and whitelist specific URLs and other content blocking etc.

So I guess getting a different router and using that with the VM Hub in modem mode might work.

But which one has the best parental controls? Anyone switched to one? TP-Link, Asus, etc?

Get a router with VLAN support get some AP (like Zyxel) to have many SSID to control per SSID schedule

Yes, a typical home user setup, VLAN's and multiple SSID's ...   What ever happened to "just plug in this Wifi box"?

I believe some of the TP-Link Routers have this sort of control?  Just read a few reviews and check.  But as pointed out, it's not infallible but better than nothing.

  • Lots of routers can block URLs, and turn off the Web at time schedules. But only for all WiFi users at once. You cannot set individual users because MAC filtering does not work.

The best parenting control is a parent.

You should maybe have a look at what options are available for on-device parental controls.

Microsoft, Apple and Google all have some kind of 'family' configurations which can be set up. I believe these function by a parental setting up a family group and then enrolling the child's device(s) into the family group. From there, the parental can apply controls which restrict the operation of the device.
