We donot want to upgrade if it means changes ..

HI,

We have a V6 box and have received an email to upgrade it.

We donot want to upgrade if it means changes in menus, appearance, ways of navigating. The reason being that we are elderly and my wife, who loves the box, would find any changes difficult and distressing. She has sight problems and has become familiar with this box and remote.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    TiVo-software drives the TiVo & V6 boxes. Horizon-firmware drives the TV360 boxes.

The two are fundamentally different - TiVo is very recording-centric with streaming added. TV360 is very online-centric with recording retrofitted for the UK market - it's in-house to VM's parent company, Liberty Global, whereas TiVo is licensed software.

VM marketing is very driven to encourage migrations to TV360, but unless you take a package which includes either Paramoount+ or Disney+ (which require TV360), conversions are 100% voluntary and the V6 platform remains fully supported.

    Knows their stuff

i.e the 'upgrade' is a downgrade to save VM money on Tivo licences.

However they need your permission to do it. Don't.

The 360 works differently, and has a different remote controller too. Both things have to be re-learned.

If you change to 360, you cannot change back.

I think ‘upgrade’ is the wrong terminology. It’s just a different platform, with some extras the TiVo V6 box does not have, but you loose some functionality. Do your research, read what others on the board say, there are lots of posts. I’m not trying to influence you one way or the other, but I’m staying with my v6 until it’s not supported anymore.

You don't have to upgrade to the 360 software platform.  Read the many discussions about the cons and pros.   If you like what you have, just stick with it ...

The upgrade saves VM money, I believe, as they pay a licence fee for the Tivo boxes, but the 360 platform is owned by VM's parent company, Liberty Global and no fee's are due.
