Virgin Media logo on Sky Sports

Hey VM

Any chance you can move the location of the logo on Sky Sports please, specifically for the darts as its impeding the score making it hard to read.

Thanks

  • Thanks a lot.

I know its a 'first world problem' but if it can be moved, seeing the score would help a lot.

The channel dogs (logos) are placed there by the broadcaster, in this case Sky, and can't be moved/removed by VM.

It's the same with the nine digit number that sometimes appears in the corner of the screen during live football broadcasts or sporting events. This is generated automatically as part of the security arrangements by the channel broadcaster(s) to assist in anti-piracy measures, and to ensure that pubs aren't broadcasting domestic sporting channels.

Cheers but i'd assume a least a request can be put in from VM?

It's not likely to change. I was in a local pub before Christmas that had the Darts showing. The "pint glass" DOG used with the Sky pub subscriptions is in exactly the same location as the VM "inverted teardrop". In fact VMs is far less intrusive than the one I saw at the pub. It is firmware generated by Sky Sports, & the likelihood of them re-writing the box firmware to place it some where else, where it will probably obstruct something else in the near future is very unlikely.

The onscreen "Sky Sports" logo, known as a DOG, is part of the broadcast picture which is controlled by the broadcaster & over which VM have no control.

I don't see the DOG in the top-right corner of the screen interfering with the score graphics in the bottom-right. Both Sky & TNT tend to move their DOGs into a different corner when the host-broadcast graphics would otherwise interfere.

Which graphic are you having issues with?

Thanks, but I am referencing the virgin media logo on Sky Sports. It's located in the bottom right hand corner which obstructs the darts score.

    Thanks

Can you post a photo of this logo? I think you're referring to the anti-piracy logo, but a domestic subscription should either have a heart symbol in the bottom-right, or a string of numbers in the top-right.

      The VM logo shouldn't feature.

Definitely a case of a picture telling a thousand words - yes that helps.

That's the anti-piracy logo mentioned earlier in the thread. Heart symbol, teardrop, but it's watermarked.

That is actually unobtrusive compared to the larger DOG displayed on pub TV screens, as I mentioned in my earlier post. Moving it is not a simple task, as it is not part of the broadcast. It is firmware watermark generated by the box itself, so to move it would mean re-writing the firmware & rolling it out in an update to several million customers. Something that would take months. As I said previously, wherever they put it is going to obstruct something at some point. It also has to be placed where streaming pirates cannot edit it out.

Thanks again for the reply and yes a huge task, I've no doubt.
