V6/Remote Pairing (Peanut shaped Remote)

A few weeks ago I received a new remote. To begin pairing "Press Clear and TV buttons simultaneously and Green should flash twice above the Home Button". A red light shows, green does not flash at all and I am unable to continue. There is nothing on Virgin Media Help to show how to resolve this. (What should happen is that if clear is successful I enter a code and the Volume and Mute Buttons will work with my TV). I'm having to use my Panasonic remote to control the Volume and Mute function.
